Pursuit of Excellence
The Scheme has been established to help young people resident in the unitary authorities of Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees, Redcar & Cleveland and Darlington who excel in their chosen speciality and who are in need of financial assistance to achieve their aims. The Foundation looks for those who are likely to reach national and/or
international prominence in a sporting or artistic endeavour.
Disco Dan

Daniel Cairney, 15, from South Bank has boogied his way to national glory becoming British Championship Dancer of the Year with partner Charlotte Brown, aged 13. He took his first steps into disco and rock ‘n’ roll at the tender age of three. Ever since then, Daniel has been strutting his stuff and has won more than 100 trophies.

The young talented freestyle dancer trains four times a week, polishing his fancy foot work, spending most of his time rehearsing for competitions; he doesn’t have time to play football – his other passion.
Daniel received £400 from the Esmee Fairbairn Fund, which enabled him
to participate in two major competitions: East Coast Dancer of the Year
and the European Dancing Championships.
